{Connect Macintosh computers to a LANtastic PC network}
The LANtastic(R) for Macintosh(R) kit converts a PC into a gateway
server that connects an unlimited number of Macintosh computers to a
LANtastic network. When PCs and Macintoshes use parallel applications,
they can share data files through the gateway server.
When an application is present on both machine formats, files on the
gateway are visible to both sides. So a document created in
WordPerfect(R) on a PC that passes through the gateway is readable on
WordPerfect for Macintosh. Lotus 1-2-3(R) spreadsheets created on the
Mac and saved to the gateway's hard drive are readable by a
Windows(TM) or MS-DOS(R) version of 1-2- 3. Run equivalent electronic
mail software on both Macs and PCs and all users can communicate
across hardware platforms.
Macintosh users can reach through the gateway for access to PC files
on LANtastic servers. The gateway server appears by clicking
AppleShare(R) from the Chooser screen. A single Mac-to- gateway
connection opens the communication path to all the Macs on that
system. Files on PC drives redirected through the gateway are viable -
and accessible - as Macintosh icons. Mac users have access to any disk
drive and PostScript(R) printer on a LANtastic server. When a Mac user
opens a PC data file, the Mac automatically launches the file in its
application.
From the PC side, users have access to Mac files saved to - and
translated by - the gateway server. The server files appear as a
normal DOS directory. The gateway shows up as as a redirected
LANtastic drive.
LANtastic for Macintosh is available in two versions. The complete kit
includes the necessary hardware and software to get you up and
running: the LANtastic for Macintosh software, a Local Talk(TM)
adapter card, cable and user's manuals for the software and adapter.
The software kit includes LANtastic for Macintosh software, a user's
manual and driver programs for EtherTalk(R), Local Talk and Token Ring
adapters.
The software provides transparent integration between the Macintosh
and PC environments, bringing together the world's two most popular
computer formats on a LANtastic network.
